#24-20 Purna Sen v. Harassment and Discrimination … Interview upon leaving UN Women

Dr. Purna Sen is leaving UN Women after 5-1/2 years as first Policy Director and then Executive Coordinator and Spokesperson on Sexual Harassment and Other Forms of Discrimination. She spoke about the work, including the effects of the hierarchical nature of the UN, #MeToo, COVID19, and Black Lives Matter, on the struggle for safety and equality for women around the world.

Host(s): Sheila Dallas-Katzman, Frieda Werden
Featured Speakers/Guests: Purna Sen is a well-known global activist and scholar in the areas of women, gender, and human rights. Her doctoral thesis at the University of Bristol in England was titled “A Basket of Resources: Women’s Resistance to Domestic Violence in Calcutta.”  In the decades since, she’s published in her field and worked with prominent institutions, including the London School of Economics, the Commonwealth Secretariat, and Amnesty International.  In 2015, Sen was a Labour candidate for Parliament in the UK – and she spoke out about vicious online trolling. After losing to the incumbent – a woman from the Greens, she accepted the post of Policy director at UN Women, and later focused in on harassment and discrimination. She talks about that work in this interview
