#15-23 Audio Art on Abortion … A prescient portrait of life After Roe

The primary content of this program is an audio art piece titled After Roe. Produced by Julie Drizin in 1992, it uses a combination of real interviews with imaginary ones, some satirical (with interesting audio effects). It reflects on a past when abortion was illegal in the US and predicts a future [now arrived!] in which a new Supreme Court has repealed women’s right to choose. The show also includes a salute to Helen Thorington, who commissioned this piece for one of her major web-based audio art series, New American Radio.  Helen was a major pioneer of audio art with collaborators around the world.  She died in April 2023 at the age of 94.  Helen was a longtime supporter of the WINGS project.
