#11-23 Naomi Klein on the hubris of geo-engineering

As the effects of climate change become more obvious across the world, the idea of doctoring earth’s atmosphere to reduce global warming is making comeback. Scientific American headlined its rejection of this supposed solution in April 2023, but engineers at major universities like Harvard and Oxford embrace geo-engineering. Some major media ate touting it. And so are some prominent tech entrepreneurs – even those who acknowledge it would also do a lot of damage.

A UN Space Treaty from 1972 holds governments responsible for damage caused by a space launch from their territories; but today space is colonized by private actors, capable of blithely trying whatever they imagine.

Naomi Klein called out the hubris of geo-engineering in a talk to the World Social Forum. The Australian radio show Women on the Line Broadcast that talk and shared it with WINGS.
