#38-20 Reporting in Kenya Under COVID … Problems and opportunities for women journalists

The advent of COVID added new problems to an already increasingly precarious situation for journalists. More than 600 have been laid off since the start of the pandemic in Kenya alone, and freelancers are especially challenged by things like not having enough money to buy their own PPE. Mwendwa describes what is happening in detail, over a background of her children’s activity as she works from home.

Host(s): Frieda Werden
Featured Speakers/Guests: Mary Mwendwa freelances with several major outlets, and is also edits at TalkAfrica.co.ke – a website that publishes data-driven stories on development issues. She is active in several journalists’ organizations, including African Women in Media.
