Six years ago, the 50-year-old Sydney Rape Crisis Centre was given a government mandate to have its counselors answer national calls at 1800RESPECT, but no increase in funds to handle the tripling work load. Recently the government announced a vast increase in funds but gave it all to a for-profit insurance company to run a triage service using answerers working from home. Complaints, unionization, and a campaign called No Profit from Rape have ensued.
